Forward Deployed Engineer Training
FDE roles grew over 800% in the last year and routinely out-earn standard SWE positions at the same level. Almost nobody is actually trained for the job, though. It isn't a SWE role with a customer call bolted on: it's debugging systems you didn't build, inside someone else's mess, with a customer's clock running. FDE Circle is where you train for that job in real, live sandboxes. Not another course. The actual work.
Practice real FDE scenarios and build a verified profile.

Why This Matters
Companies keep hiring engineers who can't do this job, not because they're not smart, but because nothing exists to train them for it. AI broke LeetCode as a signal. The standard SWE interview loop tests the wrong things entirely. FDE Circle is what's missing.
Where FDE Circle fits: Four skill categories covering everything the role demands: debugging broken systems, running discovery calls, designing integrations, and navigating industry-specific contexts. Sandbox-first, auto-graded, evidence-backed. Not videos. Not quizzes. Deployments.
The Role
Palantir built the role because shipping a demo and making software survive contact with a real customer's systems are two different jobs. An FDE takes the second one: living inside the client's actual environment, their legacy databases, their broken pipelines, their stakeholders who don't speak in tickets, and making the product work there, this week, not next quarter.
FDE vs. Similar Roles
| Dimension | Forward Deployed Engineer | Solutions Architect | Traditional SWE |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary Focus | Deep coding + high-level business strategy, on-site at the customer | Scoping, high-level design, and lighter integration work | Core product architecture and scalable features |
| Codebase Ownership | Core product extensions and highly customised client-side infrastructure | Primarily glue code, APIs, and configuration scripts | Core, centralised product codebase |
| Location | On-site embedded with the client for months at a time | Remote or short-term travel for specific discovery phases | HQ or fully remote, minimal to no client interaction |
The Curriculum
Most platforms train one slice of the job. FDE Circle covers the full picture: fixing broken code, closing a discovery call, presenting a solution to a VP.
